Meet the Winners – Rackspace

In our Meet the Winners series, we’ll be speaking with some of those who walked away from the 2022 Digital Revolution Awards with one of our sought-after trophies.

Rackspace Technology has acknowledged that innovation is sparked by diversity, which is why they’ve created several ways that staff can be their authentic selves at work.

They have initiated a number of employee resource groups that support those from different backgrounds, helping to make cloud technology a better and more inclusive place to work for all.

We recently caught up with Katerina Frolich, VP, International HR at Rackspace to talk about their win.

How did you enjoy your Digital Revolution Awards experience?

We greatly enjoyed the process on many levels. After two years spent working from home due to the pandemic, it was just fantastic to be able to come out again as a team and to meet and network with so many other inspiring employers in the cloud community.

And of course, we were incredibly honoured to be recognised for our Racker Resource Group work, which we take great pride in and see as a really key part of our employment culture.

Were there any other winners or nominees who really stood out to you?

This is a very difficult question to answer in light of the quality of the contributions and winners across the board, all of which were brilliant.

However, the work of VRAI Simulation and Cognizant Assist were the stand-outs for their wider impact on the community, achieving business, environmental and people benefits all together in an exemplary way.

What advice would you have for anyone hoping to be recognized in next year’s awards?

While our sector has always been thought-leading around aspects such as remote working and flexibility, the last two years have brought such deep and decisive changes to the world of work and how employers connect with their people.

There is real scope for creativity now to reinvent how we shape that relationship in the new, firmly hybrid world of work. How you engage with talent and how you build those crucial relationships after the ‘Great Resignation’, is key.

It’s also important to address what the purpose of an office is – I think all of these will be really important areas for new ideas.

Our Racker Resource Groups stood out because they achieve a piece of this – to build a connection between our people and communities and wider concerns, and to create an environment where people can bring their whole authentic selves to work.

That gives people a ‘why’ for working with us that is bigger than just their professional role.

How important do you think it is that we celebrate success in the cloud? What impact does it have on the tech community?

It couldn’t be more important! We came away so inspired.

Events and celebrations like this have the potential not only to highlight and encourage great work and ideas, but also to disseminate those ideas across the industry – there is no reason others should not learn and improve from the brilliant work shared.

Considering the impact, relevance and growth rate of our industry in today’s world, we also have a responsibility to act as a role model.

With great success comes great responsibility.

Is there anyone you forgot to thank in your acceptance speech that you’d like to acknowledge here?

Wayne Hooper is our unsung hero and mastermind behind so much of our EMEA-wide Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging work.

He received the award on Rackspace Technology’s behalf at the event and very much deserves a special shout out.

Thank you for everything that you do for Rackers, Wayne. Your energy around the Racker Resource Groups is contagious!

Finally, where will you display your trophy?

We have a special place for awards in the lobby of our London office and the trophy takes pride of place alongside our other much-cherished awards.

I remember that when I first visited the offices as a new starter, I was really impressed seeing this!
