How to write a great awards nomination

When it comes to winning awards, a strong nomination is half the battle.
If you’re thinking about putting forward an inspiring individual, an innovative organisation, or a transformative digital project for one of this year’s UK Digital Revolution Awards, we’ve put together some essential tips to help your entry stand out.
You’ll also find expert advice from our judging panel on exactly what they’ll be looking for.

Lead with impact

Your nomination should open with the essentials: who you’re nominating, what they achieved, and why it matters. Think of it like a news story—make sure the headline points are clear up front, then expand with detail.
Give the judges the full picture by covering:

  • Who the nominee is
  • What they do
  • Why their work stands out
  • The impact it has delivered

Prove it with evidence

Strong nominations are built on proof. Wherever possible, back up your points with:

  • Case studies
  • Press coverage
  • Testimonials
  • Metrics such as revenue growth, adoption rates, customer satisfaction scores, or cost savings

Don’t procrastinate when you nominate

Don’t leave it too late! There’s nothing worse than writing a panicked nomination hours before the deadline, only to realize later that you’ve missed out important information. Of course, you don’t have to submit your nomination immediately but start on it in good time in case you think of something else to add later.

“Before you even begin writing or filming your submission, plan ahead and consider the category you’re entering,” says Zoë Morris, President at Tenth Revolution Group. “Make sure the person or organisation you’re nominating meets the criteria, and look at previous winners for inspiration.”

Be specific

Judges want to see tangible examples of excellence. Don’t just say someone is great—explain exactly why.
Focus on measurable outcomes:

  • What did they achieve?
  • How did it make a difference to their business, customers, or community?

“A nomination needs to be crisp, concise, and focused on outcomes,” advises Wendy O’Keeffe, EVP & Managing Director at NEXTGEN Asia. “Be clear about what you achieved and the impact it had.”

Show your passion

An outstanding nomination isn’t about flowery language—it’s about authentic enthusiasm.

Share why you believe the nominee deserves recognition. Use anecdotes or stories where relevant to bring their impact to life. These are tech awards, but ultimately they’re about celebrating the people and ideas behind the innovation.

Keep it polished

Nothing undermines a great nomination like poor spelling or grammar. Proofread carefully so your entry is clear, professional, and easy to understand.

Don’t leave it to the last minute

Rushed entries often miss vital details. Start early so you can gather evidence, refine your message, and make edits before the deadline. Remember—you can save and return to your nomination any time before submission.

How to submit your nomination

When you’re ready, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Your details and contact information
  • Your nominee’s details (name, role, company, contact info, and social media profiles)
  • Your reasons for nomination, supported by evidence such as case studies, links, or videos

Entries should be 500–1,350 words or a 3–5 minute video. Links to supporting evidence can be included.

Keep it personal — not automated

While AI tools can be useful for brainstorming ideas, they shouldn’t be used to write your nomination. Judges want to hear your voice, your perspective, and your passion for the nominee.

A winning nomination reflects genuine insight into the achievements being celebrated—something AI simply can’t replicate. Share your own words, your own experiences, and your own stories. That authenticity will help your entry stand out and connect with the judging panel.

Tip to remember

Judges are looking for clear, concise, evidence-backed nominations that highlight impact. Start strong, prove your points, and let your passion shine through.
